As an Iowa-based cooperative, we are truly patient-centered because we are owned and operated by the very people we serve. Customer service and satisfaction are our measures of success, not profit.
As a social and public services co-op, Health Access Cooperative is one of more than 11,000 similar co-ops nationwide that collectively have more than 1 million members with assets close to $2 billion. You’re in good company!
In fact, the first co-op was started in 1752 in Philadelphia, before our Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The rich history of co-ops is older than America as a country.
Why a Co-op?
As the USDA explains about agriculture and all other cooperatives:
“Members unite in a cooperative to get services otherwise not available, to get quality supplies at the right time, to have access to markets or for other mutually beneficial reasons. Acting together gives members the advantage of economies of size and bargaining power.”
